Supervision of Minors Policy

The Braun Athletic Heart features the main gymnasium (used for intercollegiate competition as well as recreation); a 3,500-square-foot weight room including a Cybex Circuit, gratis weights and various cardiovascular machines such as treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines, cross-trainers and upright and recumbent bikes; 4 racquetball courts; two international squash courts; a multipurpose room with spring floor for group fettle activities and locker rooms with showers.

All members must check in at the forepart desk and swipe their membership I.D. carte du jour upon arrival.  Day lockers are available in both the men's and women's locker rooms. Sports equipment is bachelor for rental.

 Robert E. Townsend memorial plaque

Installed in the bound of 2015, the Robert E. Townsend memorial plaque hangs on the first-base dugout of North Field.

If you lot were a Caltech educatee-athlete within the last 50 years, he knew your stats.  He was at your meets and games, yelling your proper noun from the bleachers or a folding chair.

A fan and friend of thousands of students, Bob Townsend was a groundskeeper for Caltech Athletics from 1964-2003, rising to the rank of super atomic number 82 - a championship created in his honor.  Oftentimes arriving to campus at dawn, he striped and maintained the fields, rail and baseball game diamond.  Even after retiring, he fabricated sure to visit the campus every few days.

Townsend carried his love for Caltech Athletics right up until his passing, when Manager of Athletics, Physical Pedagogy and Recreation Betsy Mitchell learned that the 39-year employee had named Caltech as the beneficiary of ii annuities that allowed the department to construct a long-sought rock climbing wall and renovate the baseball diamond, including laser leveling the field, rebuilding the mound and installing new sod in a long-overdue project.

"He was always maxim he'd do something special for Caltech - he talked well-nigh it for years," Vince Riley, who is quick to name Townsend as a hugely influential mentor and succeeded himas super lead, said.  "This was like his family, his home."

Caltech pupil-athletes volition no longer hear his cheers, but Townsend is still their champion.

                                                                         Scott Brown Gymnasium

Brown Gymnasium provides boosted space for informal basketball, volleyball, badminton and table tennis and houses the department's rock climbing wall and bouldering cave.  Brown Classroom serves as the department's primary meeting room for conferences and classes.  The recently renovated intercollegiate Able-bodied Preparation Middle is also housed in Brown.

Uses: Informal basketball game, volleyball, badminton and table tennis

 Athletic Training Heart
